African political Analyst Speaks on Somaliland president vitis to Kenya

African Political Analyst Speaks on Somaliland President’s Visit to Kenya Nairobi, June 1, 2025 – Prominent African political analyst Mohamed Farah Tahar has described the official visit of Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) to Kenya as a "strategic diplomatic opportunity" that highlights Somaliland’s growing role in regional politics. Speaking to media following high-level meetings in Nairobi, Tahar stated: > "This visit reflects a new diplomatic direction. Somaliland has clearly demonstrated its readiness to build open and cooperative relations with neighboring countries. It is a timely step that shows commitment to partnership and multi-sector development." Tahar further emphasized that Kenya, a key regional power in East Africa, made a bold and constructive move by engaging with Somaliland in a manner that promotes practical cooperation beyond political recognition debates. > "This is a sign of Africa’s evolving diplomacy. Cooperation based on mutual respect and shared development goals can build a foundation for long-term peace and understanding," he added. He also noted that Somaliland operates with a functional government, democratic elections, and a stable political environment—key reasons why regional and international actors are increasingly interested in engaging with it. > "Somaliland fulfills the criteria of statehood. That’s why this visit generates interest—not because of recognition status, but because of shared regional interests and the pursuit of sustainable peace." Tahar’s remarks come as President Cirro’s visit garners wide regional attention and is seen by many as the beginning of a new era in East African diplomacy.
